Bill Monitoring: HB98

  • 1 min read

HBCU CARES is actively monitoring HB98, legislation that would establish the Alabama Law Enforcement Officers’ Family Scholarship Program.

If enacted, HB98 would:

Provide tuition and related educational expense scholarships for the children and spouses of qualifying long-term law enforcement officers

Allow recipients to attend public or private colleges, universities, or technical schools in Alabama

Establish the Alabama Law Enforcement Officers’ Family Scholarship Fund to support the program

Create a specialty blackout license plate to help fund the scholarship

Designate the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) as the administering agency

This legislation could create new enrollment and financial aid opportunities for Alabama institutions, including HBCUs and HBCCs, and expand access to higher education for families serving in law enforcement.

HBCU CARES would continue to monitor HB98 and share updates as the bill progresses.
