Announcement: Exciting Career Pipeline Program for HBCU Students in Alabama

HBCU Cares is thrilled to announce the launch of an innovative Career Pipeline Program designed specifically for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Alabama. This dynamic eight-week program, commencing in October 2024, aims to equip students with the skills and experiences needed to excel in their professional careers while encouraging them to stay and work in Alabama post-graduation.

Program Overview: This comprehensive program features a series of virtual training sessions covering essential career skills, culminating in a three-day in-person conference. The program is open to junior and senior students from four-year institutions and final-year students from two-year institutions in Alabama, across all fields of study.

Virtual Training Sessions: The sessions will be held weekly and include:

  1. Orientation Session: Introduction to the program.

  2. Tips for Completing an Application: Guidance on effective application processes.

  3. Resume Development: Crafting compelling resumes.

  4. Interview Skills: Techniques for successful interviews and mock interviews.

  5. Social Media Do's and Don'ts: Managing your online presence professionally.

  6. Navigating the Workplace: Tips for thriving in professional environments.

  7. Impostor Syndrome: Recognizing and overcoming impostor syndrome.

  8. Financial Literacy: Basics of personal finance management.

Each session will be 1 - 1.5 hours long and conducted by HR experts, talent acquisition specialists, and other industry professionals. Additionally, state of Alabama  agency leaders, corporate executives, and industry professionals will engage with students to discuss hiring opportunities and career pathways.

Interactive Group Project: Participants will be paired into groups to work on a case study relevant to hiring organizations, with a presentation scheduled for the culminating event. The winning team members will receive an educational stipend.

Culminating Three-Day Conference: The program concludes with an in-person conference featuring:

  • Networking skills and etiquette training.

  • Professional headshots.

  • Interviews with potential employers.

  • Community service projects.

  • Workshops and panels on mental health, financial literacy, and more.

Participants will not be required to pay for the three-day conference. All participants will also receive a $1,500 educational grant to support their academic endeavors.

Partnership with State Agencies: HBCU Cares is partnering with Alabama state agencies to create a clear path to employment for program participants. This collaboration aims to retain HBCU graduates in Alabama by providing them with direct access to job opportunities within the state, fostering economic growth and community development.

Application Process: Applications open on August 26, 2024, and the deadline for submission is September 13, 2024. Students are encouraged to apply early to secure their spot in this prestigious program.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a junior or senior at a four-year institution or in the final year at a two-year institution in Alabama.

  • Must commit to attending at least seven out of eight virtual sessions.

  • Active participation with cameras on during sessions is required.
